3D Model Format to Upload in AR Web Portal

3D Model Format for AR Web: IFC Only

Our AR Web Portal supports IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) as the standard 3D model format.
IFC is an open BIM standard designed for interoperability between different software, ensuring your building models load correctly in AR.

Why IFC?

  • Preserves object data (walls, doors, MEP, etc.).

  • No proprietary lock-in – works across different tools.

How to Export Your Model to IFC

Below are export instructions for popular BIM software:

1. Autodesk Revit

  1. Open your project in Revit.

  2. Go to File → Export → IFC.

  3. In the Export IFC dialog:

    • IFC Version: Choose IFC 2x3 or IFC4 (recommended for better data).

    • Modify Setup: Adjust level of detail and include necessary categories.

  4. Click Export and save the .ifc file.

2. ArchiCAD

  1. Open your project in ArchiCAD.

  2. Go to File → Save As.

  3. Select IFC File Format (*.ifc).

  4. In the IFC Translator settings:

    • Choose General Export or Coordination View.

    • Set geometry conversion to solids.

  5. Save the file.

3. SketchUp (with IFC Plugin)

  1. Install the IFC Export plugin (if not included in your version).

  2. Clean up your model (remove unused layers/components).

  3. Go to File → Export → 3D Model.

  4. Select IFC File Format and save.

4. Vectorworks

  1. Open your project in Vectorworks.

  2. Go to File → Export → Export IFC Project.

  3. Choose the IFC schema (IFC 2x3 or IFC4).

  4. Save the file.

5. Tekla Structures

  1. Open your model in Tekla Structures.

  2. Go to File → Export → IFC.

  3. Select IFC 2x3 Coordination View.

  4. Save the file.

Best Practices Before Exporting

  • Purge unused elements to keep file size small.

  • Check coordinates so your model aligns correctly in AR.

  • Simplify geometry – avoid excessive detail for faster loading.

  • Name elements clearly for easier identification in AR. USE SHORT TITLE.
