Overview
When exporting BIM models from Autodesk Revit to IFC format for BuildX AR, using the correct export template ensures that your 3D model is optimized for AR viewing. The BuildX AR template contains preconfigured settings for element categories, geometry precision, and property mapping — all tailored to work seamlessly with our AR viewer.
Before You Start
-
You must have Autodesk Revit 2019 or later installed.
-
Make sure your model is clean (no unused families, unused views, or duplicate geometry).

-
Choose your save location and click OK.
Best Practices for AR Optimization
-
Reduce file size: Hide or remove unnecessary elements (e.g., furniture, small MEP fittings) before export.
-
Check coordinates: Ensure your project’s base point is set correctly to avoid model misalignment in AR.
-
Simplify geometry: Avoid overly detailed family models — complex geometry may impact AR performance.
-
Consistent naming: Keep element and family names clear for easy identification in BuildX AR.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Model not visible in AR | Incorrect coordinate origin | Check project base point in Revit |
File too large | Unnecessary detailed elements | Purge unused families and simplify model |
Missing elements | Categories not mapped in template | Reload BuildX AR IFC template and re-export |
📌 Note:
Once exported, upload the .ifc
file to your BuildX AR Web Portal for processing. The portal will automatically optimize it for AR visualization and collaboration.
